Description

A Late Chippendale Carved Cherrywood Stretcher-Base Pembroke Table

Circa 1790

Height 29 x width 20 1/4 x depth 32 inches. (closed)

Property from the Collection of Mr. R. Neall Distad, Cleveland Heights, Ohio

Condition
In overall fine and stable condition. Retains a fairly even color and refinished surface throughout.  Scuffs, marks, and scratches consistent with age and use. Appears to retain the original drawer pulls and hinges. Few age cracks visible, with few other visible age cracks. Old repaired age crack to the central top board.  Old plugs visible to the top, where dowel pegs held the top into the case, but now there are screws securing the top in place.  We still feel confident that the top and case are original to one another. Each of the legs bows slightly inward toward the stretcher, possibly from manufacture or from the way the wood dried.  One of the rear knee returns is mostly lost. The top 1/2 of the drawer is lipped and patched but appears to be a fairly early repair.
